In May 1983, Booker Prize-winning author Salman Rushdie visited Kashmir, gave a rare interview to Radio Kashmir Srinagar and interacted with students at SP College. Within six years, the publication of The Satanic Verses transformed him from a celebrated literary guest into the centre of protests across Kashmir.
